As parents you should incorporate variety of foods that are rich in Vitamin C, Vitamin E and omega-3 fatty acids in your children’s daily diet. Carrots, oranges, berries and nuts are some of the foods which are good for eye health due to the nutrients available in it as well as the presence of antioxidants protects against cell damage.
Protection in sunlight
It is essential that your children is wearing sunglasses which are having UV coated lenses to protect their eyes from harmful rays. If possible make them wear hats or caps.
Selection of toys
Toys with sharp edges are strict no, especially with small kids. Choose toys that are appropriate to their age and also try to include toys which can promote visual development in them.
Avoid household accidents
Eye injuries in children are usually observed due to household accidents. Store phenyls, disinfectants and other chemical based products in a safe place which is out of reach of children. Keep cushions on sharp corners and edges of furniture. Lock the drawers having cosmetics and also have cabinets locked having kitchen utensils and other sharp objects such as knife.
Focus on Outdoor Games
Parents should encourage their children to play more of outdoor games and activities and minimizing use of mobiles, tabs and computers for playing online games.
Periodic Eye Examination
It is always advisable to have regular eye check-up for children, atleast once in a year with your eye doctor. It is good practice for good eye health and also for prevention and early detection of issues related to eye.
